Acanthosis nigricans is a cutaneous manifestation of an underlying condition. It develops in skin folds, such as the back of the neck, axilla, and groin, where it presents as velvety hyper-pigmented patches with poorly defined borders.

Etiology
Familial acanthosis nigricans:
Obesity-associated acanthosis nigricans
Medications associated with acanthosis nigricans
Acanthosis nigricans associated with endocrine ( diabetes and insulin resistance)
Acral acanthotic anomaly:
Malignant acanthosis nigricans syndrome
Auto-immune acanthosis nigricans:
Unilateral acanthosis nigrican
